Police confirm ongoing investigation as community leaders urged to tackle rising domestic violence cases.
A 35-year-old woman in Yobe State has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband during a domestic dispute over food.
The suspect, Hadiza Mamuda, reportedly struck her husband with a piece of wood during an argument at their residence in Garin Abba village, Fika Local Government Area. The blow proved fatal.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim. He noted that a full investigation is ongoing and that the suspect will be charged in court once the probe is concluded.
The victim, described as a polygamist with two wives and five children, is said to have left behind a devastated family. One of his wives, Hadiza, is now in custody for the fatal attack.
Reacting to the incident, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, called for stronger community efforts to tackle domestic violence. He urged religious leaders and community heads to step up awareness campaigns on the dangers of physical confrontation in homes.
“The Command is deeply concerned about rising cases of domestic abuse,” Ado said. “We are committed to protecting the lives and safety of every citizen, and we call on communities to support peaceful conflict resolution.”
