Bauchi Begins Chlorination of Wells to Curb Cholera Outbreaks
Bauchi government has launched a well chlorination campaign to prevent cholera this rainy season.
The initiative targets high-risk areas and aims to ensure clean, safe water for residents.
To prevent cholera outbreaks as the rainy season begins, the Bauchi State Government has launched a well chlorination campaign through the State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA).
Speaking at the flag-off event on Thursday, the Director of Inspection, Enforcement, and Compliance at BASEPA, Muhammad Usman, said the agency is focused on professionalism to ensure the safety of residents during the exercise.
According to Usman, the chlorination will cover four local government areas Bauchi, Tafawa Balewa, Misau, and Jama’are all identified as high-risk zones for cholera due to water contamination during the rainy season.
He emphasized the need for accurate dosing, noting that proper measurement of each well’s water volume and the right quantity of chlorine are crucial for effective and safe disinfection.
Usman also directed field officers to carefully complete the data sheets provided, explaining that the information would support future water safety initiatives in the state.
He called on the teams to remain alert and professional throughout the assignment, adding that BASEPA remains committed to protecting public health through practical, preventive steps.
