Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the 16th Emir of Gusau and a respected traditional ruler in Zamfara State, has died at the age of 71. The Emir passed away in Abuja following a prolonged illness, bringing to an end his distinguished reign that began in 2015.

Before ascending the throne, Dr. Bello had a long career in public service, including his role as a Permanent Secretary in the federal civil service. His administrative expertise and calm leadership style earned him wide respect both within and beyond Zamfara State.

During his tenure as Emir, Dr. Bello was recognized for promoting peace, education, and intercommunal harmony in a region frequently plagued by security challenges. His voice was often one of moderation and unity, calling for development and cooperation among diverse groups in the state.

Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed deep sorrow over the Emir’s passing, describing him as a father figure and a pillar of wisdom. “His Majesty’s leadership was marked by dedication, humility, and tireless service to our people,” Lawal said in his condolence message.

The governor also praised the late Emir for his contribution to governance and his unwavering support for initiatives aimed at restoring peace and improving the welfare of citizens across Zamfara.

The death of Dr. Bello marks a significant loss for the traditional institution in Northern Nigeria. Tributes have continued to pour in from across the country, honoring his role in fostering unity and progress during a challenging period for the region.

Funeral arrangements are expected to follow Islamic rites, with the Gusau Emirate Council set to announce further details.
