Peter Obi Donates N20 Million to Support UNICAL Dental Students

Peter Obi has donated N20 million to support stranded UNICAL dental students facing accreditation challenges.

His visit brought renewed hope as funds target better labs and equipment for future compliance.

The crisis arose after UNICAL admitted far more students than the annual quota of 10 approved by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). This over-admission placed many students at risk of not graduating or being inducted as certified dental surgeons.

In response, Obi donated N20 million to the university’s Faculty of Dental Studies to help ease the burden. His intervention is expected to address key infrastructure gaps, such as the need for more dental chairs and enhanced laboratory facilities crucial steps toward meeting MDCN’s regulatory standards.

Obi was warmly received during a visit to Calabar, where both students and faculty members appreciated his support. His gesture not only provides immediate relief but also offers hope to the affected students and strengthens the faculty’s capacity for future admissions.
