Gobir explained that although the buses had been previously acquired, their deployment was delayed until the new e-ticketing system was ready.

“Now that the digital platform is live, passengers can easily book and pay for their trips online, avoiding delays and queues at bus terminals,” he said.

He added that the project aims to ease transportation difficulties for residents, particularly during tough economic times following the removal of fuel subsidies.

According to Gobir, the digital system would also improve transparency in the management of the mass transit service and ensure that public funds are used effectively.

He advised the transport ministry to maintain high standards in supervising the service, keeping the buses clean and in good condition.

“These are public assets purchased with taxpayers’ money, and they must be preserved and cared for,” Gobir said.

In his remarks, Commissioner Bala Kokani expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritizing the transport sector.

“This is a major step forward in our mission to modernize transport in Sokoto. We will ensure the buses are well maintained,” he assured.

The new buses and e-ticketing platform are expected to ease traffic congestion, improve travel convenience, and bring greater efficiency and transparency to public transport in the state.
