Two South-East Governors Set to Join ADC, Party Confirms
ADC set to welcome two South-East governors as 2027 election strategy gains momentum.
Party eyes wider defections amid rising discontent with current leadership and national hardship.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is poised to receive two serving governors from Nigeria’s South-East region in the coming weeks, as part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was revealed over the weekend by the ADC’s South-East National Vice Chairman, Hon. Chilos Godsent, during a media briefing in Owerri. According to him, consultations are in advanced stages and the defections will soon be made official.
“We are in advanced talks with two serving governors in the South East. Very soon, they will publicly declare for our great party. This move is in line with our resolve to deliver the South East to ADC in 2027,” Godsent stated.
He further disclosed that a number of lawmakers both at the federal and state levels have also signaled interest in joining the party. A federal lawmaker who requested anonymity confirmed this, noting that the defection is part of a larger effort to create a viable political alternative to what he described as the “poverty and hardship brought about by the Ahmed Bola Tinubu-led government.”
With these planned defections, the ADC is hoping to reposition itself as a major player on Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in the South-East, where discontent with the current administration appears to be growing.
