Enugu East Chairman Hails Smart Green Schools as a Game-Changer in Education
Governor Peter Mbah’s Smart Green School project has been hailed as a game-changer for education in Enugu State.
Enugu East chairman says the tech-driven schools will reshape learning and prepare students for the future.
The Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Engr. Beloved-Dan Anike, has praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s Smart Green School project as a groundbreaking step that could reshape education in Nigeria.

Anike made this known on Monday during an inspection of Smart School projects in his local government, ahead of their planned opening in September 2025.
He commended the governor’s vision and speed in constructing over 260 high-tech Smart Green Schools across the state, calling it a bold move that places Enugu at the forefront of education reform nationwide.
“This isn’t just an upgrade it’s a new era of learning. Only a bold and visionary leader like Governor Mbah could push through such a major change,” Anike said while touring the project site.
At the Umuigbo Smart School, the chairman expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work and described the facilities as powerful tools for developing creativity, digital skills, and critical thinking among students.
He also made a surprise visit to Umuchigbo Community High School, where he joined staff and students for their end-of-session event. In an emotional speech, Anike recalled his role in founding the school in 2008, with classes starting officially in the 2012/2013 academic year.
“This school means a lot to me. Seeing how far it has come is a proud moment,” he said.
Anike announced that Umuchigbo students will resume in September in a fully equipped Smart Green School, now over 90% completed. He added that teachers and students should expect a major transformation once the new system is launched.
The chairman described the new Smart Schools as having digital classrooms, ICT tools, e-libraries, science labs, and innovation hubs to support teachers. He said this new model would change how students learn and prepare them for a fast-changing world.
“The Smart School concept is the future. It will boost creativity, digital skills, and problem-solving abilities in our children,” Anike added.
He praised Governor Mbah for taking strong steps to fix long-standing issues in public education by investing in infrastructure, technology, and teacher development.
“Thanks to Dr. Peter Mbah’s bold leadership, we are seeing real changes in our education system. What’s happening in Umuchigbo and across Enugu State is proof that a brighter future is possible,” he said.
Anike also noted that the council is working with the state’s Ministry of Education to ensure a smooth rollout of the new schools by September.
The Smart Green School project is one of the major initiatives of Governor Mbah’s administration, aimed at transforming public education in Enugu State through digital learning tools, modern facilities, and a future-ready curriculum.
