IGP Egbetokun Decorates 28 Newly Promoted Senior Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has decorated 28 newly promoted senior officers in Abuja.

He called the ceremony part of a historic promotion wave, urging the officers to uphold integrity and reform.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Monday decorated 28 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force who were recently elevated to higher ranks.

The decoration ceremony was held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Among those honoured were 12 officers promoted from Commissioner of Police (CP) to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), and 16 elevated from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to CP. Their promotions were approved by the Police Service Commission based on the IGP’s recommendation.

In his remarks, Egbetokun described the promotion as part of a comprehensive welfare agenda under his leadership. He highlighted that the current wave of promotions represents one of the most rapid and wide-reaching in the Force’s history.

He congratulated the newly promoted officers and charged them to embrace innovative policing methods, build public trust, and remain committed to professionalism and respect for human rights.

“These promotions are not just acknowledgements of past efforts, but a call to even greater responsibility,” the IGP stated. “As senior leaders, you must uphold the highest standards of integrity and performance.”

The new AIGs include Emmanuel Adegbola Aina, Enyinnaya Adiogu, Ronke Nurat Okunade, Johnson Oluwole Adenola, Hassan Audu Yabanet, Chinedu Oko, Aminu Baba Raji, Omolara Oloruntola, Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Tijani Ahmadu Abdullahi (rtd), Mohammed Usman, and Bretet Emmanuel.

Promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police are Sheik Mohammed Danko, Abiola Reuben Olutunde, Charles Dike, Victor Erivwode, Nnanna Oji Ama, Michael Falade, Yakubu Dankaro, Gabriel Elaigwu, Emefile Tony Osifo, Umar Ahmed Chuso, Aina Adesola, Uduak Uta, Sylvester Edogbanya, Musa Muhammed Sani, Omoikhudu Philip, and Innocent Anagbado.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Senator Oyewunmi Olalere, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance; Rt. Hon. Obi Aguoda of the House of Representatives; Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development; Femi Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the Police Trust Fund; members of the Force Management Team; serving and retired senior officers, as well as relatives of the decorated officers.
