The 54-year-old actress now seeks meaningful love and a non-traditional view of marriage that fits her life.
Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has opened up about her past experiences with younger men and why that chapter of her life is now closed.
Speaking on the Dear Ife podcast, the 54-year-old screen star explained that she once dated a younger man, but it was simply a phase and one she’s no longer interested in revisiting.
“I can’t date a younger man. There’s no need to. I’ve done it before, but I don’t want to do it again. When I dated the younger man, I was having fun, and it was for a season. That season is over,” she said.
According to Shaffy, the relationship at the time fit where she was emotionally. It wasn’t about loneliness or rebellion, just enjoying a light-hearted connection. However, the actress noted that even though she’s no longer chasing fun, she still receives attention, even from younger admirers. But not all compliments land well.
“Yes, men still slide into my DM. When you’re over 50 and young men still slide into your DM, that’s flattering. Some will come and say, ‘Hi dear.’ You know, you just want to insult their mother,” she said.
Shaffy also touched on what she’s now seeking in love, making it clear her priorities have changed. She wants something meaningful like marriage, but with a more open-minded view.
“I know for sure what I want now is marriage. I don’t mind marriage, but I have a very different opinion when it comes to what we believe marriage is,” she explained.
Though she did not go into full detail, Shaffy hinted that she’s not following traditional expectations and prefers a more personal, flexible idea of what marriage should look like.
