Verydarkman Reacts to Renaming of Charley Boy Bus Stop, Warns Nigerians Against Political Distractions
Verydarkman has weighed in on the renaming of Charley Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop, calling it a political distraction.
He warned Nigerians not to fall for tactics that stir ethnic tension ahead of the 2027 elections.
Popular activist Martins Vincent Otse, better known as Verydarkman (VDM), has shared his thoughts on the recent renaming of a well-known Lagos landmark.
Days ago, news broke that the famous Charley Boy Bus Stop had been changed to Baddo Bus Stop in honour of rapper Olamide. The announcement stirred heated reactions online, with some users turning the issue into a debate between the Yoruba and Igbo ethnic groups.
Reacting in a video, VDM described the move as a calculated distraction often used by politicians ahead of elections.
According to him, it was another form of “mind game,” and he cautioned Nigerians not to fall for it. He stressed that the government’s intention was not to honour Olamide or disrespect Charley Boy, but to quietly ignite ethnic division.
He said this tactic was part of a larger political strategy, adding that, “This is just tribalism to turn Yorubas against Igbos.”
VDM also pointed out that during the last elections, tribal sentiments were similarly used to stir tension. He recalled a moment involving MC Oluomo, where he shouted “Baba Chukwudi, Iya Chukwudi” as an example of how politicians incite ethnic rivalry.
He went further to outline what he believes are the three major tools used to manipulate the public during elections: money, tribalism, and religion. VDM emphasized that while the bus stop may now be officially called Baddo Bus Stop, in people’s minds, it will always be Charley Boy Bus Stop, “Just like every detergent is still called Omo and every seasoning cube is called Maggi.”
He also noted that both Olamide and Charley Boy have made significant contributions in different fields and suggested that Olamide might not even be aware of the renaming.
In his final message, VDM urged Nigerians to stay focused and not be distracted by minor issues as the country approaches another election cycle.
