The arrest, which took place on July 25, 2025, was made possible through the support of residents of Umueri village in Ogbunike. According to police authorities, Nwafor confessed during questioning that she is the girlfriend of the main suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who is currently on the run.

She reportedly told investigators that Elobisi called her to help clean up bloodstains after the murder and admitted they were involved in selling the victim’s body parts to various native doctors. Investigations also revealed that the victim, a trained nurse, had been lured to the suspect’s residence under the pretext of offering her medical help.

Based on Nwafor’s statement, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department raided the shrine of a native doctor, identified as Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile, in Itima Amawa village, Ogbunike, during the early hours of July 29. There, they recovered suspected human parts hidden in plastic bags.

The Anambra State Police Command has since intensified its efforts to apprehend Elobisi and other accomplices allegedly involved in the gruesome crime.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the killing, describing it as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He called on members of the public to assist with credible information, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
