Luis Diaz Joins Bayern Munich in £65.5m Transfer From Liverpool
Luis Diaz joins Bayern Munich for £65.5m after winning four trophies in two years at Liverpool.
The Colombian forward bids farewell with heartfelt tribute, set to boost Bayern’s attacking power.
Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has officially completed a £65.5 million move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, bringing an end to his successful two-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield.

The Colombian international underwent his medical in Bavaria on Tuesday, July 29, after Liverpool accepted Bayern’s second offer, which includes performance-related add-ons. The Reds had previously rejected an initial bid of around £58.5 million (€67 million), but eventually agreed to the £65.5 million (€75 million) deal, citing it as a fair reflection of Diaz’s market value.
Diaz departs Liverpool as a Premier League champion, having won four major trophies during his time at the club. His achievements include lifting the FA Cup and EFL Cup in his debut season, as well as helping the team to the 2024/25 league title. He also featured in the Reds’ 2022 UEFA Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.
In an emotional farewell post on Instagram, Diaz paid tribute to the club, the fans, and his late teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away earlier this month.
“It’s good to be leaving with the feeling of a duty fulfilled, and, most of all, to be leaving a champion. It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way,” Diaz wrote.
“I carry everyone with me in my heart, but one of them in particular: Diogo. I will never forget him.”
Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for £37 million, going on to score 41 goals in 148 appearances across all competitions. Last season marked his most prolific campaign, notching 17 goals as Liverpool claimed the Premier League title.
His exit is part of a busy summer of transfer activity for Liverpool, who have so far earned approximately £115 million in player sales. These funds have helped offset their £270 million spending spree, which included the acquisitions of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.
Despite Diaz’s departure, the Reds remain active in the transfer market and are reportedly interested in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
Diaz is expected to be a key figure in Bayern Munich’s attacking line-up under manager Vincent Kompany as the club looks to defend its domestic title and contend for European honors in the coming season.
