Katsina lawmakers raise alarm over rising bandit attacks threatening lives across Dutsinma communities.
They urge Federal Government to act fast and reinforce security in affected rural areas.
The Katsina State House of Assembly has expressed deep concern over the rising attacks by bandits in several communities within the state. During a plenary session held on Wednesday and led by the Speaker, Alhaji Nasir Yahaya-Daura, the lawmakers called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to support security efforts in the region.
The motion was raised by Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar-Khamis, who represents the Dutsinma Constituency and chairs the House Committee on Security. He highlighted the worsening insecurity in parts of his constituency, saying residents were living in fear as attacks continued to spread.
According to him, bandits had recently taken the lives of innocent people and security personnel, while also abducting others in areas such as Makera, Gammo, Karofi, and Dabawa wards in Dutsinma Local Government Area. He called for the immediate deployment of more military and security officers to those troubled areas.
While he appreciated the efforts made by the Katsina State Government to address the issue, he stressed that additional help from the Federal Government was necessary to fully restore peace. Other lawmakers also voiced similar views, urging a review of the current security strategies to safeguard lives and property.
At the end of the session, the Assembly agreed on the motion and passed their resolutions to the executive arm for prompt action.
