Lagos PDP Expels Members Over Support for ADC

PDP expels members in Lagos for endorsing ADC, citing misconduct and breach of party loyalty.

Leaders urge discipline and grassroots mobilization ahead of internal congresses set for September.

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled a group of its members for pledging support to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The party said the affected individuals were guilty of misconduct and disloyalty, which violated PDP’s core principles.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Segun Edwards, who serves as the spokesperson for the PDP Elders Caucus and also chairs the party in one of the local government areas in Lagos. Edwards addressed reporters after a strategic meeting attended by party leaders and key stakeholders. The meeting was held to assess the outcomes of the recent PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) session, which took place in Abuja the previous week.

According to Edwards, the expelled members had publicly endorsed the ADC, an action that PDP leaders viewed as a serious breach of loyalty. He said this move was seen as a direct challenge to the party’s rules and structure.

“The people in question openly declared support for the ADC, which goes against the principles and discipline we uphold in the PDP,” Edwards said. “The leaders present at the meeting agreed without hesitation that such disloyal behavior should not be tolerated, and so we passed a motion to expel them immediately.”

During the meeting, PDP stakeholders emphasized the need to strengthen the party’s structure in Lagos and prepare for its upcoming internal elections. These congresses are expected to begin in September and run through November, covering all levels from local government units to the national level.

As part of this preparation, the meeting directed all local government chairmen of the PDP to begin mobilizing grassroots support. Party leaders believe this is necessary to rebuild and reinforce the PDP’s position in Lagos ahead of the congresses.

The party elders also issued a strong warning to members, stating that any further acts of indiscipline would attract strict consequences. They stressed that loyalty to the party must be taken seriously, especially at this time when the PDP is working hard to reposition itself for future political contests.

Sources within the party said the expulsion was part of a broader strategy to ensure unity and promote internal reforms. They added that the leadership wants only loyal and dedicated members to participate in reshaping the party’s future in Lagos and beyond.
