Tinubu Urges Digital Creators to Use Influence for National Unity, Not Division
President Tinubu has urged digital creators to use their platforms to promote unity and national growth.
At a summit in Abuja, he praised youth innovation while stressing responsibility in Nigeria’s digital space.
President Bola Tinubu has called on young Nigerians engaged in the digital media and content creation space to use their platforms as tools for unity, innovation, and national progress.
Speaking at the Progressives Digital Media Summit held in Abuja, the President emphasized that a deepened sense of responsibility and patriotism must match the expanding influence of digital creators.
“I urge you to continue using digital platforms to advance our nation’s progress. Build businesses that employ others. Create content that uplifts and unites. Use your influence to foster unity, not division,” Tinubu stated in a message delivered by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The summit, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” brought together digital creators, media practitioners, and policymakers to examine the growing impact of new media on society.
The President acknowledged the creativity and determination of Nigeria’s youth in leveraging digital tools to innovate, demand accountability, and amplify civic engagement. He stressed that digital media should not be viewed as a luxury but as a critical force in economic growth and social inclusion.
“From developing innovative platforms to building vibrant online communities, you are demonstrating the determination that is redefining what is possible for this country,” Tinubu noted. “You are not waiting for the future; you are building it.”
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy through initiatives like the National Digital Innovation Fund, which aims to support startups and nurture a thriving tech ecosystem. He also encouraged content creators to remain vigilant against misinformation, cyber threats, and content that could harm national cohesion.
The summit convener and Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Segun Dada, highlighted how digital platforms have transformed from tools of social interaction to engines of innovation, influence, and public discourse.
Dada emphasized that while the digital space offers enormous opportunities, it must be managed responsibly to safeguard national unity and protect users’ privacy and trust.
