10 Foreigners Nabbed in Ondo Over Suspected Human Trafficking

Ondo police have arrested ten foreigners over a suspected human trafficking case uncovered in Akure.

A Congolese woman was found abandoned after being lured to Nigeria with fake job promises.

Ten foreigners have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command in connection with a suspected human trafficking case uncovered in Akure.

The arrest was confirmed by the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, during a press briefing on Sunday. He explained that the suspects, most of whom are from the Republic of Benin, entered Nigeria without proper documents and were found living in a house along Oda Road in Akure.

Lawal said their arrest followed a tip-off about unusual activities at the location. During the raid, police also found a 29-year-old citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo, identified as Nzaou Yelica Christ-Olse, who had allegedly been misled into coming to Nigeria.

The Congolese national was reportedly promised training in online business but ended up stranded after arriving in the country. Lawal said, “She was brought in under false claims and later abandoned.”

According to the police, the suspects lacked valid travel papers. Some were found with expired passports, while others had no form of identification at all.

The individuals arrested include Atouh Joel (37), Mohamed Atta Amidou (35), Saibou Akateliwe (33), Abdul Jahao (26), Ndah Severin (27), Kumpori Ruth (19), Kumpori Martin (31), Tatiana Madous Dianne (32), Martias Sossa (22), and Ndapola Oba Giove (30).

The police commissioner said the case has been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further handling.

He added that the rescued victim is receiving care and support from relevant agencies while investigations continue.
