Veteran Nigerian singer 9ice has shared that the Grammy Award he once sang about in his 2008 hit Street Credibility featuring 2Face has finally been fulfilled, just not by him, but by Burna Boy.

During a recent appearance on The Nancy Isime Show, 9ice addressed long-standing jokes about his past declaration to win a Grammy. He explained that even though he didn’t win it himself, the prediction in his verse came to life through Burna Boy’s global success. “I was talking about Grammy and I wasn’t given, Burna got it. We never get am?” he said.
He further clarified that back in 2008, when he made the Grammy reference in Street Credibility, such recognition was nearly impossible for Afropop artists.
“At the time I was talking about it, it wasn’t even attainable for Afropop artists at all. That’s why I said when artists sing, they can be passing messages. That’s why it’s also important for artists to be very careful of their lyrics because music is spiritual,” 9ice added.
