Ademola Lookman Submits Transfer Request, Cites “Broken Promises” and Poor Treatment at Atalanta
Ademola Lookman has submitted a transfer request, citing broken promises and blocked exit plans.
He thanked Atalanta fans but said it’s time for a new challenge after three passionate years.
Nigerian international Ademola Lookman has officially handed in a transfer request to Atalanta, revealing deep frustrations over the club’s refusal to honor what he described as a mutual agreement to allow him to leave if a suitable offer arrived.

In an emotional statement released on Sunday, Lookman reflected on his three years at the Serie A club, describing the period as one filled with passion, pride, and unforgettable memories. “Over the past three years at Atalanta, I’ve given everything… Winning the Europa League with this team was one of the proudest moments of my career,” he said.
The 26-year-old forward expressed his gratitude to the fans and the city of Bergamo, which he described as “home from the moment I arrived.” Despite his appreciation, Lookman said he now feels it is the right time to pursue a new challenge, citing several approaches from clubs in the past which he turned down out of loyalty.
However, he claimed that although a fair offer is now on the table, Atalanta is refusing to let him leave, contrary to previous assurances.
“Sadly, the club is blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,” Lookman stated. He also alleged months of broken promises and treatment he described as unfair, both personally and professionally.
The forward clarified that submitting a formal transfer request was a last resort after “many months” of private efforts to resolve the issue.
“To the fans… I’m truly sorry it’s come to this,” he wrote. “It’s simply about standing up for what I believe is fair and right.”
Lookman concluded by thanking the supporters for their unwavering loyalty and expressed hope that an amicable resolution will be reached soon.
