LASTMA has sanctioned 18 officers and impounded over 7,000 vehicles for traffic violations in Lagos.

More than 54,000 offences were also captured using technology, alongside new reforms and training.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has disciplined 18 of its officers and impounded more than 7,000 vehicles for traffic-related offences within the first half of 2025.

The agency’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos. He said the enforcement was carried out through both physical operations and technology-based solutions.

According to him, while 7,000 vehicles were apprehended on the road, over 54,000 were captured using the Traffic Management Solution (TMS) technology. In addition, more than 1,000 abandoned or obstructive vehicles were removed from the roads, and the agency recorded over 700 traffic accidents during the same period.

Bakare-Oki said officer training has been a top priority since January. The training program includes weekly sessions on emotional intelligence, mental health, non-aggressive enforcement, and advanced traffic management. Both internal and external facilitators are involved.

He confirmed that the sanctioned officers were penalized for violating established regulations. Punishments ranged from dismissal and demotion to written warnings, in line with Lagos State Public Service rules.

He also mentioned the launch of monthly traffic awareness campaigns, the introduction of the Female Elite Corps, and the appointment of a LASTMA Mayor to promote road discipline across Lagos.
