Adeleke Denies Spending ₦3.1 Billion on Foreign Trips, Says Budget Covered Over 100 Agencies

Governor Ademola Adeleke has dismissed claims that ₦3.1 billion was spent on foreign trips in 2025.

He clarified the funds covered training for government staff, not personal travel, and called the reports misleading.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has debunked claims that his administration spent ₦3.1 billion on foreign trips within the first half of 2025, describing the reports as “false, misleading, and politically motivated.”

In a statement released on Monday, August 5, by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal transparency and accountability. He stated that the ₦3.1 billion figure being circulated was deliberately misrepresented to discredit his government.

According to the clarification, the funds in question were not exclusive to the governor’s travels but formed part of the state’s annual training and capacity-building budget across more than 100 government agencies.

“Contrary to the misleading narrative, the stated amount represents a near full-year training budget for Osun State’s ministries, departments, and agencies,” the statement read.

It further explained that the expenses covered costs for transportation, accommodation, feeding, and logistics for commissioners, permanent secretaries, directors, heads of agencies, and staff from tertiary institutions who participated in various local and international training programs.

Rasheed noted that a majority of these training sessions were deliberately scheduled in the first half of the year to avoid clashing with the expected surge in political activities during the latter part of 2025.

To reinforce his commitment to cutting costs, the governor reportedly used a family-owned private jet for some official engagements, including a recent trip to the United States, thereby saving the state from additional flight expenses.

Describing the reports as “mischievous and unfounded,” Governor Adeleke’s office urged the public to disregard the allegations, adding that the state government remains focused on service delivery and prudent financial management.
