EFCC Denies Forcing NNPCL Boss Bayo Ojulari to Resign Amid Viral Abduction Rumor
EFCC has denied rumors that Chairman Ola Olukoyede forced NNPCL’s Bayo Ojulari to resign.
The agency called the claims false, urging Nigerians to ignore unverified social media reports.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked widespread social media rumours alleging that its Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, abducted and coerced Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), into resigning.
Describing the claims as “ridiculous and mischievous,” credible EFCC sources confirmed there is no truth to the reports, which trended over the weekend on various online platforms.
According to officials, Olukoyede has no authority to appoint or remove officials in any government agency, including NNPCL, and could not have compelled Ojulari or any executive to vacate their position.
“Olukoyede is not the appointing authority. He does not need to abduct or force anyone to resign. If there is a need to hold anyone accountable, the proper channel is followed through formal invitation or written communication,” an EFCC source stated.
The Commission reiterated that the Chairman remains committed to the rule of law and due process, dismissing any insinuation of intimidation or coercion.
“The EFCC Chairman is not a bully. He has never abducted, coerced, tortured, or compelled anyone to resign at any time,” the agency clarified, urging the public to disregard the rumor and avoid spreading unverified information.
The rumor had suggested that Ojulari resigned from his role at NNPCL under pressure, allegedly linked to ongoing corruption investigations. However, no official confirmation has been made about any such resignation or probe.
