Gunmen Strike in Akungba, Abduct AAUA Staff
Two staff of Adekunle Ajasin University were abducted by gunmen in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State on Monday.
Police have rescued one victim, while efforts are ongoing to free the second and ensure their safety.
Two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), were attacked and taken by armed men on Monday evening in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The abduction took place at their residence in the Akungba-Akoko community, according to police authorities.
Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Olufunmilayo Ayanlade, confirmed the incident on Tuesday. He said officers responded swiftly, which led to the rescue of one of the abducted individuals.
“One of the two university staff has been rescued, and efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the second,” he said.
He added that the rescued victim is currently being interviewed to provide details that could help in the search for the other.
Sources identified one of the victims as Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a faculty officer with the Faculty of Education at the university and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
It was learnt that Eleyinmi was taken from his home on Supare-Akoko Road around 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
Security efforts have been intensified in the area as the search for the remaining victim continues.
