Iyabo Ojo Urges Wizkid, Tiwa Savage to Speak Up for Mohbad

Iyabo Ojo has urged Wizkid and Tiwa Savage to speak up for struggling young artists.

She wants top stars to help fight for justice and protect Nigeria’s rising music talents.

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has appealed to music stars Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, urging them to lend their voices to the fight for justice for the late singer Mohbad.

In a recent Instagram Live session, Ojo said it was time for influential artists to support rising talents facing challenges in the industry. She noted that many young musicians, including Mohbad, were inspired by top acts like Wizkid and Tiwa Savage. According to her, it is unfair for senior artists to remain silent while the very people who idolise them are left without support.

Calling for action, Ojo stated, “Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, I need you. These young boys, they come from the slums and ghettos just like most of you did, and they were inspired by you guys to become artists. And they have so much talent. Music is one of the talents that has put Nigeria on the map… These children are making us proud.”

She warned that the country must not repeat the mistakes of the past, where legendary figures like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba faced harsh treatment from record labels and authorities. Ojo said Nigeria’s new generation of artists must be protected from similar abuse and exploitation.

“Nigeria is blessed with talents, and we cannot allow any cult or anyone pull them down,” she added. “We cannot allow anybody pull those children down because their music is what’s giving us joy… We will not allow what Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba went through in the hands of record label executives and the authorities to happen to new generational artists.”
