Jigawa Police Arrest Seven Suspected Drug Barons, Others in Statewide Operations
Jigawa Police have arrested seven suspected drug barons and several others during statewide security operations.
The arrests led to the recovery of drugs, stolen items, and vandalized property, with prosecutions underway.
The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended at least seven suspected drug barons and several other criminal suspects during a series of coordinated operations across the state.
The announcement was made on Monday, August 4, 2025, in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse, the state capital.
According to the statement, the arrests were made between July 27 and August 1 following intelligence-driven operations that led to the recovery of illicit drugs, vandalised materials, and stolen property.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, praised his officers for their prompt and professional response, adding that the command remains committed to public safety.
The command detailed several breakthroughs from the recent operations:
- In Birnin Kudu, a suspect was arrested with vandalised cable wires suspected to belong to a government facility.
- In Kazaure, three men were apprehended for burglary and found with stolen Android phones. The suspects reportedly confessed and will be charged after investigations conclude.
- In Gujungu village, police foiled a motorcycle theft, recovered the stolen bike, and arrested the suspect, Jibrin Muhammad. Investigations are ongoing to locate other accomplices.
- In Dutse, seven individuals believed to be drug users and dealers were caught with large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other banned substances.
- In Ringim, another alleged drug kingpin was found with a considerable amount of Indian hemp. The suspect is to be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution.
- In Hadejia, two more suspected drug dealers were also arrested with illicit substances and will be transferred to the NDLEA.
- In Taura, police nabbed two suspected tricycle thieves, Nazifi Ahmed and Salma Haruna, and recovered the stolen vehicle.
- In Kiyawa, five suspects were caught in possession of hard drugs, including D5 and Exol tablets. They remain in custody and will soon face prosecution.
The police urged residents to keep supporting security efforts by providing credible and timely information. The Commissioner also warned criminal elements, especially drug traffickers, to stay away from the state.
