NFF Backs Ademola Lookman Amid Atalanta Transfer Dispute
The NFF has backed Ademola Lookman in his ongoing transfer row with Atalanta.
The Super Eagles star accused the club of poor treatment and submitted a formal transfer request.
NewsKobo.com earlier reported that Ademola Lookman has submitted a transfer request, citing broken promises and poor treatment by Atalanta.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has publicly declared its support for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, who is currently locked in a transfer standoff with his Italian club, Atalanta.
Lookman, 26, revealed on Sunday via Instagram that he had submitted a formal transfer request, citing months of “broken promises” and what he described as “poor treatment” by Atalanta. The forward’s statement comes after the club reportedly blocked a proposed move to Inter Milan, despite a €42 million offer plus €3 million in add-ons from the Serie A champions. Atalanta is said to be holding out for a fee closer to €50 million.
Although Lookman did not name Inter Milan directly, sources close to the situation confirm the Nerazzurri are his preferred destination. The rejection of the bid and lack of progress have reportedly led the Nigerian international to remove all Atalanta-related content from his social media profiles, a clear sign of a growing rift with the club.
In a rare move, the official Super Eagles account (@NGSuperEagles) posted a message of support, simply stating:
“We stand with Ademola Lookman.”
The post reflects the NFF official stance and signals a significant intervention in a club-versus-player situation, highlighting Lookman’s growing influence and value to the Nigerian national team, especially after his standout performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a key role in Nigeria’s run to the final.
