Police to Honor Top Officers with Accelerated Promotions for Exceptional Service
The Nigeria Police Force will honor top-performing officers with accelerated promotions approved by the Police Service Commission.
The move, led by IGP Kayode Egbetokun, aims to reward integrity and boost morale across the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to honor several officers who have demonstrated outstanding service, courage, and integrity, through accelerated promotions recently approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

This was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to the statement, the initiative is part of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s broader commitment to institutional reforms and boosting morale across the Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force is taking a bold and symbolic step towards encouraging merit, motivation, and professionalism,” the statement read. “The IGP will soon decorate officers whose conduct and dedication have distinguished them in service to the nation. These promotions are not just advancements in rank, but national acknowledgements of integrity and excellence.”
The Force also recalled its earlier pledge to reward officers who consistently stand out through the Police Awards or the Inspector-General’s commendations.
As stated in a previous release dated July 25, 2025, the Force committed to recommending accelerated promotions for officers who had either been named Police Officer of the Year twice in a row, won any of the Police award categories consecutively, or received the IGP recognition award over two consecutive years.
“Following that resolution reached at the Force Management Team meeting on June 23, 2025, names of eligible officers were forwarded to the Police Service Commission, and their promotions have now been approved,” the statement added.
The official decoration ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Among those to be decorated are CSP Shaba Aliyu, Police Officer of the Year 2023, who has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (effective December 31, 2023), and SP Sentome Obi, Police Officer of the Year 2024, now promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police (effective December 31, 2024).
The Force noted that other award-winning officers and staff at the IGP’s Secretariat, who have received multiple commendations in the past two years, are also beneficiaries of the accelerated promotion exercise.
In a show of honor, the IGP has ordered the use of the police jet to transport both officers to Abuja for the ceremony. Additionally, their portraits have been placed at the main entrance of Force Headquarters, and similar displays have been ordered for all Zonal and State Command headquarters.
“This is how we show institutional pride,” the statement noted. “This is how we build trust from within by making honor, excellence, and professionalism the standard.”
DCP Adejobi concluded by encouraging officers across the country to remain committed, assuring them that their efforts and integrity will be recognized.
“To every officer out there know that your hard work is not ignored. Under the current leadership, the Nigeria Police Force will continue to promote and reward those who uphold professionalism and integrity,” he said.
