Chimamanda Adichie Says Peter Obi Wants Presidency Out of Genuine Concern for Nigeria

Chimamanda Adichie reaffirms support for Peter Obi, praises his humility, consistency, and patriotic leadership.

Author says Obi seeks presidency to serve, not out of ego or hunger for power.

Renowned author and public intellectual, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has reiterated her support for Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as a leader driven by service, not ambition.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Adichie praised Obi for his humility, consistency, and commitment to Nigeria, noting that his desire to become president is rooted in a genuine concern for the country’s future.

“He doesn’t need to be president; he wants to be because he cares about Nigeria. That’s a very important distinction,” she said. “There are people who are desperate for power, not to serve, but to feed their egos.”

Adichie stressed that her support for Obi stems from a deep sense of patriotism and a belief in the possibility of better leadership for Nigeria.  She described Obi as a man who takes responsibility seriously and doesn’t expect praise for doing his duty.

“Peter Obi doesn’t see leadership as a favor to the people he sees it as a job. He is someone who feels accountable, not entitled,” she added.

Calling the former Anambra State governor “one of the simplest men I have ever known,” Adichie said his values have remained steadfast over the past 15 years.

“The person I knew 15 years ago is still the same in values. He is authentic, consistent, and genuinely curious traits I believe are essential in any good leader.”
