NSCDC Arrests Two Suspects for Drug Trafficking and Burglary in Kano
NSCDC operatives in Kano have arrested two men for alleged drug peddling and burglary offences.
One suspect was caught with cannabis, while the other reportedly broke into multiple homes.
The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended two individuals over alleged involvement in drug peddling and burglary.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the arrests were made during two separate operations carried out by NSCDC operatives.
“In a recent success in the fight against crime, two suspects were arrested in different locations by our personnel,” Abdullahi stated.
In the first operation, a 42-year-old man identified as Basiru Ahmed was arrested in the Salanta area of Gwale Local Government. He was reportedly found with a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp (Cannabis sativa).
Abdullahi explained that Ahmed’s arrest followed credible intelligence, and he was caught in the act of distributing the illicit substance within the community. Over 106 parcels of cannabis were recovered from him.
The suspect has been transferred to the Kano State office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate case, another suspect, 22-year-old Muhammad Abbas, was arrested in the Gurungawa area of Kumbotso LGA. He is accused of breaking into several homes and stealing valuables worth hundreds of thousands of naira.
Abdullahi noted that Abbas had been on the watchlist of security operatives and was eventually apprehended during a routine patrol aimed at tackling theft and other crimes in the area.
The NSCDC confirmed that both suspects will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
The command also appealed to the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities to aid efforts in combating criminal elements in the state.
