Tesla Announces 10X More Powerful Full Self-Driving System
Tesla has revealed a major upgrade to its self-driving system with 10 times more parameters.
Elon Musk says public release is expected by late September, pending successful internal testing.
Tesla has unveiled a significant advancement in its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, announcing a next-generation model with approximately 10 times more parameters than previous versions. The upgrade also features major improvements in video compression efficiency, potentially boosting the software’s ability to handle complex real-world driving scenarios.

CEO Elon Musk revealed the development in a post on X, stating that the enhanced FSD system could be ready for public release by the end of September 2025, pending successful internal testing.
“Tesla is training a new FSD model with ~10X params and a big improvement to video compression loss,” Musk wrote. “Probably ready for public release end of next month if testing goes well.”
The increase in parameters suggests a much more powerful neural network, enabling better decision-making, object detection, and situational awareness on the road. Improved video compression also means the system can process high-quality input from vehicle cameras more efficiently, reducing latency and improving responsiveness.
While the current FSD beta has been rolled out to thousands of drivers, the system still requires active human supervision and regulatory clearance in most regions.
This upgrade could mark a turning point in Tesla’s AI-driven approach to autonomous driving, though the company will need to prove safety and reliability at scale before gaining wider adoption or approval.
