Tinubu Orders Pension Adjustment for Police Retirees Following Abuja Protest
President Bola Tinubu has approved higher pension payments and a minimum guarantee for retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme, with focus on ex-police officers.
This comes after a recent protest by retired police personnel in Abuja, demanding fairer treatment after years of service.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the implementation of increased pension payments and a minimum pension guarantee for retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), particularly for former police officers. This directive follows a recent protest by retired members of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, where they demanded better treatment in retirement.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. Onanuga explained that Tinubu’s decision came after he was briefed by Omolola Oloworaran, the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
The President instructed PenCom to immediately address the lingering concerns surrounding police pensions, stating that those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the country should not face hardship in retirement. He also directed relevant agencies to fast-track the provision of free healthcare services for low-income pensioners nationwide.
During her briefing, Oloworaran informed the President about the Commission’s efforts to safeguard the value of pension assets amid rising inflation and economic challenges. She also discussed plans to introduce foreign currency pension contributions, aimed at encouraging Nigerians living abroad to invest in the system.
President Tinubu expressed strong support for these reforms and emphasized that his administration remains committed to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians, especially those who have served the country.
Is it only Police men that have served the Country? What about other civil servants?
Nice one, hope it helps reform the police.
