Burnley Sign Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea in Five-Year Deal Worth £25m
Burnley have signed Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu in a £25 million deal this summer.
The 21-year-old French talent joins on a five-year contract as Burnley rebuilds for next season.
Burnley Football Club has officially completed the signing of 21-year-old French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea in a permanent deal reportedly worth around £25 million. The player has signed a five-year contract, becoming Burnley’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.

The move forms part of a dual sale by Chelsea to Burnley, with striker Armando Broja also heading to Turf Moor for a reported £20 million. Combined, the two deals have earned Chelsea approximately £45 million, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Ugochukwu, who arrived at Chelsea from Stade Rennais in 2023, made limited appearances for the Blues and struggled to break into the first team under former manager Mauricio Pochettino. Despite showing potential, the club decided to sanction his exit in a bid to streamline their squad and comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Burnley, now preparing for the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, sees Ugochukwu as a key addition to their midfield. Known for his physicality, composure on the ball, and ability to screen the defense, the young Frenchman offers both present stability and long-term value. Manager Vincent Kompany is believed to be a strong admirer of the midfielder’s skill set and views him as an ideal fit for the club’s evolving tactical structure.
The deal also highlights Burnley’s aggressive approach in the current window, as they aim to reinforce their squad with youthful, high-potential talent. With Premier League survival the immediate goal, Burnley is investing heavily to ensure it stays competitive.
