The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched an investigation into an incident involving renowned Fuji artist, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, over an alleged violation of security protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The agency disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the incident took place on Monday, August 5, 2025, during the boarding process for ValueJet Airlines flight VK 201, which was headed to Lagos.

According to the statement, signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, preliminary findings showed that the musician attempted to bring a liquid-filled flask on board, despite repeated warnings from airport security personnel and the flight captain.

“During the boarding process, the passenger tried to carry an unidentified liquid onto the aircraft, contravening existing aviation security regulations,” the statement said.

FAAN clarified that the liquid in question exceeded the permissible limit of 100 milliliters, a clear violation of Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Program and the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Annex 17 guidelines.

While such liquids may be allowed under specific conditions such as for medical reasons and with proper declaration K1 reportedly refused to comply when informed of the restrictions.

Tensions rose when the musician allegedly declined to cooperate with airline officials and security staff, who requested further screening. Reports indicate that he poured the contents of the flask later identified as alcohol on a security officer.

“The Flight Captain intervened to calm the situation but met with similar resistance. Once boarding was complete, she ordered the aircraft doors closed,” the statement added.

FAAN noted that the situation escalated further when K1 moved to the front section of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area, despite multiple appeals from crew members.

He was eventually removed from the aircraft by the Aviation Security (AVSEC) crime unit for questioning and later released.

The authority condemned the conduct and confirmed that a full investigation is ongoing.

“FAAN maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward any conduct that threatens airport operations or passenger safety,” the statement emphasized. “All those found responsible will face appropriate legal consequences, regardless of their status.”
