OpenAI Partners with U.S. Government to Provide ChatGPT Enterprise for $1

OpenAI offers ChatGPT Enterprise to U.S. federal agencies for just $1 per year.

The deal aims to boost government efficiency and marks a major step in AI adoption.

OpenAI has reached a unique agreement with the U.S. federal government to provide ChatGPT Enterprise to federal agencies at a symbolic cost of just $1 per year. The deal, announced on August 6, 2025, through the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), is aimed at helping government bodies improve efficiency and embrace modern technology.

Through this partnership, agencies will get secure access to ChatGPT Enterprise, which comes with advanced data protection, admin tools, and strong AI capabilities tailored for professional environments. OpenAI will also offer training and support to help federal teams integrate the tool smoothly into their daily operations.

This move supports the Biden administration’s larger goal of using new technology to upgrade public services. By bringing artificial intelligence into government processes, officials hope to cut down on delays, deliver better service to the public, and reduce red tape.

ChatGPT has already seen wide use in the private sector, with major companies like PwC, Stripe, and Morgan Stanley relying on it. Now, its expansion into the public sector shows just how valuable AI has become across different fields.

While the $1 fee is mostly symbolic, it emphasizes the shared goal of using technology for the public good rather than profit. It also opens the door for smarter policymaking, improved communication, and more streamlined administration.

Importantly, the enterprise version offers the same high-level security used by major companies, including strong compliance measures to keep sensitive government data safe.

As this rollout begins, it will likely lead to more conversations about how AI should be used in government settings, especially when it comes to issues like transparency, privacy, and accountability to the public.
