Amaechi Counters Tinubu’s Claim on Buhari’s Emergence as President

Rotimi Amaechi has downplayed claims that President Tinubu played a decisive role in Buhari’s 2015 win.

He insists Buhari’s rise was the choice of God and the Nigerian people.

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed suggestions that President Bola Tinubu was instrumental in Muhammadu Buhari’s rise to the presidency, insisting that Buhari’s victory was the will of God and the Nigerian people.

Speaking during a session on X Spaces, Amaechi took a subtle jab at Tinubu’s widely publicised 2022 campaign remark in Ogun State, where Tinubu declared that he had backed Buhari’s presidential bid and that it was “his turn,” a statement that popularized the phrase “Emi Lokan.”

Amaechi argued that Buhari’s eventual victory in 2015, after multiple failed attempts in previous elections, was not the result of any single individual’s influence. He challenged anyone claiming credit to publicly state the extent of their contribution.

“God and the Nigerian people chose Buhari as President over any other candidate,” Amaechi said. “If somebody claims that Buhari became President because of them, they should explain how much they contributed and what else they did.”
