Police Clarify Sowore’s Bandaged Arm, Deny Torture Claims
The Nigeria Police have denied torturing Omoyele Sowore during his recent detention in Abuja.
They said his bandaged arm was a personal item and not linked to alleged inhuman treatment.
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed allegations that human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was tortured while in their custody.

Sowore, who is being investigated over petitions accusing him of forgery, cyberstalking, and other offences, was arrested on Wednesday after honoring a police invitation at the Force Headquarters. He was released on Friday night.
In a statement on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said Sowore “was never subjected to any form of inhuman treatment while in custody.”
Adejobi described the viral image showing Sowore with a bandaged arm as misleading, claiming it was part of his personal items before his arrest.
He added that the Inspector-General of Police ordered an internal probe to determine how Sowore had the bandage during detention, especially since he refused medical examination by independent police medical teams.
“The IGP remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and compliance with custodial procedures,” Adejobi stated.
The police spokesperson confirmed that Sowore is expected to appear in court soon to respond to the allegations against him.
