Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea made an emotional return to Old Trafford on August 9, 2025, during a pre-season friendly between Manchester United and Fiorentina.


The 34-year-old Spaniard, who left the club in 2023 after a distinguished 12-year spell, was honored with a special presentation by club captain Bruno Fernandes. Supporters inside the stadium rose to their feet, giving him a standing ovation that echoed the affection built over his 545 appearances for the Red Devils.

During his time at United, De Gea won eight major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Europa League, and multiple domestic cups. He was also named the club’s Player of the Year a record four times, becoming one of the most decorated goalkeepers in United’s modern history.
In an emotional message shared on social media, De Gea described the occasion as “a magical moment” for him and his family, calling Old Trafford his “home.” He thanked fans for their unwavering support throughout his career, saying, “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the reception and all the love you showed me today.”
