Man Accused of Killing NSCDC Officer Dies in Escape Attempt

A murder suspect in Jigawa died after jumping from a speeding security vehicle while in custody.

Authorities say he was linked to the killing of an NSCDC officer at Shuwarin Market.

A man accused of killing an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has died after reportedly leaping from a moving vehicle while in custody.

According to the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Jigawa, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, the incident happened while the suspect was being taken to the command’s headquarters in Dutse.

The deceased officer, SC Bashir Adamu-Jibril, was said to have been attacked by hoodlums at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area while carrying out official duties. He was stabbed during the assault and later died from his injuries.

Tijjani said the suspect, a 45-year-old man from Shuwarin Town, was arrested on August 7 after the command received reliable information linking him to the killing.

“While being transported to the command headquarters at high speed, the suspect somehow managed to free himself from the handcuffs and jumped out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to escape,” he stated.

The suspect sustained serious injuries from the fall and was rushed to Dutse General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

The NSCDC has vowed to continue its investigation and ensure justice is served for the late officer while maintaining security across the state.
