FIRS Launches e-Invoicing Platform as 1,000 Companies Begin Integration
FIRS has begun nationwide rollout of its e-Invoicing system, with over 1,000 firms already onboard.
The platform aims to boost transparency, curb tax evasion, and modernize Nigeria’s revenue administration.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced the commencement of nationwide integration with its new electronic invoicing (e-Invoicing) platform, with over 1,000 companies representing 20% more of the 5,000 eligible firms already on board, less than two weeks after the system went live on August 1, 2025.
The initiative, part of efforts to modernize Nigeria’s tax administration, is designed to streamline compliance, improve transparency, and curb tax evasion.
FIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, revealed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, that the rollout follows a successful pilot phase launched in November 2024. The phased implementation begins with large taxpayers, defined as companies with an annual turnover of ₦5 billion or more.
Telecoms giant MTN Nigeria became the first to transmit live e-invoices to the FIRS, signaling the official start of the new regime. Other multinational corporations, including Huawei Nigeria and IHS Nigeria, have completed test transmissions and are expected to transition fully in the coming days.
To facilitate onboarding, FIRS has partnered with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to accredit service providers who will serve as System Integrators and Access Point Providers, helping businesses connect to the platform and transmit invoices seamlessly.
Acknowledging that some companies faced operational challenges meeting the original August 1 deadline, FIRS has approved a three-month extension. All large taxpayers now have until November 1, 2025, to complete their integration.
“In the spirit of encouraging voluntary compliance, the FIRS management has graciously approved a three-month extension,” Adedeji said, adding that ongoing stakeholder engagements, including webinars, workshops, and town hall meetings, will ensure a smooth transition.
The e-Invoicing platform, developed as part of Nigeria’s Electronic Fiscal System (EFS), provides real-time visibility into commercial transactions, ensuring invoice authenticity, accuracy, and completeness. The system is aligned with global best practices and supports the Federal Government’s broader revenue assurance and anti-tax evasion goals.
It also forms a core component of the Nigeria Revenue Services Reform Act, which seeks to harmonize revenue reporting and create a single source of truth for government income. Once the significant taxpayer phase is complete, the platform will extend to medium-sized and emerging businesses.
Adedeji commended all stakeholders, taxpayers, consultants, and service providers for their commitment, describing the project as “a transformative shift in Nigeria’s fiscal landscape” that will strengthen accountability, improve efficiency, and enhance trust in the country’s tax system.
