Spyro Opens Up on Staying True to His Faith Despite Pressure

Spyro remembers being told his bold “Jesus Boy” image could limit his music career.

He ignored the advice, stayed true to his faith, and is now reaping widespread acclaim.

Nigerian singer Spyro has reflected on a key moment in his career when some of those closest to him in the industry questioned his decision to openly embrace his Christian identity.

The star revealed that after walking away from his former record label in 2019, he decided to go independent, funding his music through bank and personal loans. With no financial backing, he relied on persistence, hard work, and faith in God to push forward.

He said not everyone in his camp supported his “Jesus Boy” branding. Some advised him to remove “Christ Ambassador” from his profile or soften his image, warning it could limit his marketability and opportunities.

“I remember saying I would rather DIE than remove Jesus from my profile,” Spyro said, noting that while he understood their concerns, he was unwilling to compromise his convictions.

One person even suggested changing it to “Child of God” to make it broader, but Spyro refused, insisting that the name of Jesus would bring him the right opportunities.

According to him, those same people have since reached out to applaud his success. One message he received read: “A lot of artistes are suffering now, no deals, no shows, but you are in a very good place and I am proud of you.”
