The Federal Government appointed Fuji star KWAM 1 as an airport security ambassador after a recent incident.
His flight ban was reduced, and he will help promote proper conduct in Nigerian airports.

The Federal Government has named Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, as an ambassador for airport security protocols. The appointment follows a recent incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where the singer was involved in a confrontation with airline staff and security officials.
As part of the agreement, KWAM 1’s one-year flight ban was cut to one month, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will drop its criminal complaints against him. The move is intended to balance disciplinary action with an opportunity for rehabilitation.
Under the agreement, KWAM 1 will collaborate with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to raise public awareness on acceptable conduct within airport premises, focusing on passenger etiquette and compliance with security protocols. The government expressed confidence that his influence and popularity will help drive home the message of safe and respectful conduct in Nigerian airports.
The August 5 incident that led to the sanctions reportedly occurred when KWAM 1 allegedly obstructed the movement of a ValueJet aircraft. The musician later issued a public apology, explaining that the flask in his possession contained water for medical purposes, not alcohol. His expression of remorse contributed to the government’s decision to grant clemency on compassionate grounds.
Officials noted that the partnership aims to foster a culture of safety and cooperation among air travelers, reduce conflicts between passengers and airport authorities, and ensure adherence to established aviation security standards.
FAAN will spearhead the engagement process, with educational campaigns expected to highlight the importance of following security guidelines for the safety of passengers and crew. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing aviation safety rules while also promoting public education and behavioral change.
