The program, run in partnership with technology training firm GOMYCODE, will offer participants access to Google’s advanced AI tools, including Gemini, and a curriculum designed by Google experts.

John Kimani, Head of Developer Ecosystem for Google in Sub-Saharan Africa, described the move as a milestone for Nigeria’s growing tech sector. “We are witnessing a technological renaissance in Nigeria, driven by a vibrant community of developers eager to solve local challenges. This collaboration is about more than training, it’s about empowering this community to build the future,” he said.

Kimani noted that the initiative comes at a critical time when industries in Nigeria and across Africa are adopting technology to address major challenges in areas such as fintech, healthtech, and agritech. By closing the gap between raw talent and specialized AI expertise, Google hopes to position Nigerian developers at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation.

The 11-week training will be delivered through GOMYCODE hacker spaces nationwide, blending in-person classes with mentored, hands-on lab work. This hybrid approach is designed to ensure that participants can immediately apply what they learn to real-world projects.

Babatunde Olaifa, Country Director for GOMYCODE, said the company would provide infrastructure and local expertise to help Nigerian developers thrive. “We are creating an environment where innovation can flourish, and we are excited to see solutions built by Nigerians, for Nigeria and the world,” he said.

The program will conclude with a demo day where top participants will present their AI-powered solutions to Google and industry leaders. Applications are now open to developers nationwide via bit.ly/BwAIDevTraining.
