Igbo Community Leader Blasts Tinubu Over Economic Policies, Warns of Mass Starvation
Igbo Community leader Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe accused President Tinubu’s policies of worsening hardship for Nigerians.
He condemned fuel subsidy removal, naira devaluation, and rising prices, urging urgent action to prevent mass hunger.
President General of the Igbo Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, has penned a scathing open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the administration of driving Nigerians into severe hardship and discontent through misguided economic policies.
In the letter, Ellis-Ezenekwe condemned the sudden removal of the fuel subsidy without the immediate implementation of promised relief measures, such as subsidized public transportation, higher wages for civil servants, and stronger food security programs. He alleged that, rather than prioritizing these commitments, the government had been indulging in “extravagant expenditures” on items like luxury ocean liners and repeated foreign trips.
He further criticized the floating of the naira, which he said had caused a sharp depreciation, leaving it among the weakest currencies on the continent. According to him, the resulting inflation has driven the cost of essential goods to unprecedented levels, with a 50kg bag of locally produced rice now selling for over ₦100,000 and cement exceeding ₦10,000 per bag.
Calling the situation “inhumane” for Nigerian workers, Ellis-Ezenekwe urged President Tinubu to take urgent action to avert “mass starvation” and restore economic stability.
