INEC Warns Against Multiple Registration Ahead of Continuous Voter Registration Exercise
INEC has warned against multiple registration in the upcoming CVR, saying offenders risk removal from the register.
The exercise begins August 18 with online registration, covering new sign-ups, PVC collection, and replacements.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against engaging in multiple registration during the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, warning that offenders risk being completely removed from the voter register.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Plateau State, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, issued the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting on the resumption of the CVR nationwide. He stressed that voter registration is both a constitutional right and a civic duty for all eligible citizens, and no one can vote in any election without being duly registered.
Sadiq urged Nigerians aged 18 and above who have not yet registered to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He explained that multiple registration would not be tolerated and could lead to the total deletion of the offender’s details from the register.
The REC announced that the CVR will commence on August 18 with an online registration phase, accessible from anywhere and at any time through the commission’s portal at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/. The exercise will cover new voter registrations, PVC collection or transfer, and replacement of lost or damaged PVCs.
Sadiq also called on residents of Plateau who have already registered to use the period to collect their PVCs, adding that measures have been put in place to prevent non-Nigerians from participating in the process.
He appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to help mobilize and sensitize eligible citizens on the importance of taking part in the exercise, stressing that broad participation is key to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
