Mrs. Esther Onyekesi says her son’s murder was a targeted attack but not linked to Soludo.

She condemned political attempts to exploit the tragedy and urged support for improved security.

Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, mother of the late businessman and CEO of Fish Magnate Group, Martins Ifesinachi Onyekesi, has broken her silence over the tragic killing of her son.

The young entrepreneur was abducted last month, and despite reports that ransom was paid, he was murdered by his captors, who later abandoned his body for the family to retrieve.

In an emotional meeting at her home with members of the Geeks and Founders Alliance for Soludo (GEFAS), a political support group for Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mrs. Onyekesi described the incident as a deliberate attack. She recounted that her son was ambushed outside his home as he got out of his car to open the gate.

She firmly dismissed claims circulating online that Governor Soludo had any involvement in the killing. Such allegations, she said, were baseless and politically motivated. According to her, the security situation in Anambra has improved compared to the past, and the governor should not be blamed for every criminal incident in the state.

Mrs. Onyekesi, who also serves as the Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, revealed that the governor personally reached out to her after the incident. She noted that he connected her with the state’s police commissioner to coordinate efforts to rescue her son.

She expressed concern that some political actors had tried to exploit her loss for their own agendas. Several individuals, she said, had approached her in an attempt to use the tragedy as a weapon against the governor. While some of these overtures were made directly to her, others came through intermediaries. She stated that she had rejected every attempt to turn the matter into a political tool, stressing that her focus was on seeking justice for her son rather than engaging in partisan battles.

Mrs. Onyekesi urged the public to stop spreading unverified claims about the killing and instead support efforts to improve security in the state. She maintained that while the government has a role in tackling crime, it is unrealistic to expect the governor to personally prevent every violent incident.

The burial of Martins Ifesinachi Onyekesi has been scheduled for August 28, 2025, in his hometown of Ikenga, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State.

During the visit, GEFAS Coordinator, Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, conveyed the group’s condolences to the family. He assured them that both the alliance and the wider APGA community would continue to offer prayers and moral support as they go through this difficult time.
