Singer Fido has accused his former label, Inner Circle Entertainment, of financial misconduct stalling his career.
He claims most of his $20,000 advance for hit single Awolowo was withheld.
Nigerian singer Fido has openly accused his former record label, Inner Circle Entertainment, of financial misconduct that nearly derailed his career.
Speaking during a recent radio interview, the Awolowo crooner, claimed the label withheld most of the advance payment for the hit single. According to him, out of a $20,000 advance, he received only about ₦1.5 million, while the rest was allegedly taken by the label.
“I was transparent with you guys. Even when I was with you guys, you took all my advance from me. The advance that I was given for Awolowo you guys took 70% from it,” Fido said.
He added:
“What am I even saying, they took 95%. They just gave me only like N1.5 million out of $20,000. This is the first time I’m saying this and it’s true, there’s facts to all these things.
“We’re working on the situation now, and what stopped whatever progress I was supposed to make was because of these issues I was having. People never knew that that was what I was facing.”
The “Joy Is Coming” hitmaker, revealed that the dispute with Inner Circle not only slowed his rise in the music industry but also created trust issues over financial records. He accused the label of a lack of transparency, particularly with his music earnings.
Fido, who shot to fame with Awolowo, started his career under Inner Circle Entertainment but insists he was not discovered by anyone. He maintains that he carved his own path with “God’s guidance.”
Earlier this year, his current label, Oosha Records, announced a partnership with the international music company, EMPIRE, marking a new chapter for the singer’s career.
