Borno Police Order Rearrest of Woman and Son Over Brutal Assault on Housewife
Borno police have ordered the rearrest of Hauwa Abdullahi and her son over assault allegations.
The duo allegedly attacked housewife Fatima Usman with sticks and iron rods in Maiduguri.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed the rearrest of one Hauwa Abdullahi and her son following allegations that they assaulted a housewife, Fatima Usman, with sticks and iron rods in Maiduguri.

The order came after public criticism over the suspects’ earlier release shortly after being taken into custody. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the incident occurred on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Old GRA.
Fatima, speaking weakly from her hospital bed at Horoma Clinic, described how Hauwa, her son, and two others allegedly attacked her after a dispute involving their children. “I only tried to escort my frightened child, but Hauwa and her boys descended on me with sticks and iron rods until I became unconscious,” she recounted.
Earlier that evening, Fatima’s children had reportedly been beaten by Hauwa’s children while fetching water. When her husband, Miki Muhammed, intervened, he believed the matter was settled. Hours later, Fatima was left hospitalized with serious injuries.
Miki, who lodged a complaint at the GRA Police Station, expressed anger over the suspects’ quick release. “This is not Hauwa’s first offence. She once attacked a neighbor’s wife and broke her wrist. She already has a case in court and another petition before the National Human Rights Commission. Yet, police set her free again,” he said.
Sources revealed that Hauwa was initially detained but released on health grounds after allegedly sustaining a broken arm in a separate fight with another neighbor. Police later invited Fatima to formally lodge her complaint after receiving photo and video evidence of the assault.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) confirmed the case had been reported to it. Its state coordinator, Mrs. Jummai Mshelia, said the commission is working with police authorities to ensure justice is served.
