Major General Muhammad Sani Sami II (Rtd), the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State and former Governor of Bauchi State, has died in London at the age of 81 following a short illness, according to a statement released by the Kebbi State government.

Born into the Zuru Emirate, Major General Sami II was widely respected for his distinguished military career and his leadership in governance. He served as the Governor of Bauchi State during the early 1980s, a period remembered for his dedication to public service and grassroots development.
His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the country. Political leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the public have extended condolences to his family and the Zuru Emirate Council, praising his lifelong contributions to Nigeria’s progress.
Announcing his death, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, described the late Emir as a “pillar of wisdom and service” whose legacy will endure. The state government also expressed solidarity with the people of Zuru and Kebbi State at large during this period of mourning.
Major General Sami II is survived by four wives and seven children. Prayers have been offered for his soul, with many recalling his humility, patriotism, and dedication to both his emirate and the nation.
