Nigerian-Born Ipswich Student Achieves UK’s Top A-Level Result in Law
Nigerian-born student Abiola Abidoye has achieved the UK’s highest A-Level law result at 18.
The Ipswich scholar also earned A* grades in maths, further maths, and physics.
A Nigerian-born student in Ipswich has earned national recognition after recording the highest A-Level result in law across the United Kingdom.

Eighteen-year-old Abiola Abidoye, a student of One Sixth Form College, achieved top A* grades in mathematics, further mathematics, physics, and law. Despite considering law as his weaker subject, he scored 224 out of 240 in three exam papers, placing him at the very top of the country’s ranking.
Sharing his excitement, Abidoye said he initially chose law out of interest rather than strength. “I have maths and physics which are my strong suit. I did law because it’s my passion. I’m very passionate about different types of law, even some that we didn’t do like human rights. It was just a fun lesson I wanted to do. I wasn’t expecting to do so well.”
He admitted the result came as a shock. “I saw that result before my others, so I was already nervous waiting for them, but then that came through. I put in an immense amount of work into this. I was staying up to ungodly hours for my studying. I put a lot of pressure on myself to try and achieve it. I am not sure if I will do it again because it was very difficult, but I am pretty happy.”
Abidoye praised his teachers at the college for the guidance and encouragement they provided throughout his studies. Looking ahead, he intends to pursue a degree in mathematics and hopes to build a career in banking or finance.
