Nigerian Army Announces Major Shake-Up in Top Command
The Nigerian Army has announced a major shake-up in its leadership, redeploying top generals and commanders.
The new postings aim to boost operations against insurgency, terrorism and other security threats.
The Nigerian Army has carried out a significant redeployment across its senior leadership, affecting Principal Staff Officers, General Officers Commanding, Corps Commanders, Commandants of training schools, and Brigade Commanders.
In a statement on Sunday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, confirmed that the postings were approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.
Under the new arrangement, Maj.-Gen. Adekunle Adeyinka becomes Chief of Logistics, Maj.-Gen. A.A. Adekeye takes over as Chief of Personnel Management, while Maj.-Gen. T.B. Ugiagbe assumes the role of Chief of Standard and Evaluation. Similarly, Maj.-Gen. A.A. Idris has been appointed Chief of Military Intelligence, and Maj.-Gen. M.O. Erebulu is the new Provost Marshal.
Other key appointments include Maj.-Gen. E.A. Anaryu as Corps Commander, Supply and Transport, and Maj.-Gen. J.E. Osifo as Director-General, Nigerian Army Finance Corporation. On international assignments, Maj.-Gen. S.A. Akesode has been deployed as Head of Mission for the African Union Verification Mission in Tigray, Ethiopia.
At divisional level, Maj.-Gen. A.S.M. Wase now leads 1 Division and Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, while Maj.-Gen. C.R. Nnebeife has been assigned to 2 Division and Sector 3 of the same operation.
Training commands also witnessed new postings, with Maj.-Gen. M.O. Ihanuwaze heading the Nigerian Army Finance School, Maj.-Gen. K.O. Osemwegie at the Signal School, Maj.-Gen. A.J. Aliyu at the Ordnance School, and Maj.-Gen. A.C. Adetoba leading the Army College of Logistics and Management.
At the brigade level, Brig.-Gen. M. Jimoh is now in charge of 1 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. N.E. Okoloagu takes over 2 Brigade, while Brig.-Gen. A.A. Bello commands 6 Division Garrison and Sector 3 of Operation DELTA SAFE.
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede urged the redeployed officers to strengthen the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and other security threats, while assuring that troop welfare remains a central priority under his command.
