Niniola Opens Up On Trauma Of Witnessing Father’s Assassination
Singer Niniola has recounted the painful trauma of witnessing her father’s assassination in 1995.
She revealed the tragic memory remains an emotional scar she has never fully healed from.
Nigerian singer Niniola has opened up about the enduring trauma of witnessing the assassination of her father, Brigadier-General Simeon Apata (rtd.), inside their family home almost 30 years ago.

He was shot dead by gunmen on January 8, 1995, in Lagos, while his family looked on.
Speaking in a recent interview with Jay On Air, Niniola revealed that the tragic incident remains an emotional scar she has never healed from, especially because she was her father’s favourite child.
“I was at home when my father was killed, and being his favourite child made it even harder. The trauma still lingers; I’m not over it, and I know I never will be,” she said.
“I was very young when it happened. “I can’t recall exactly how old I was at the time, but it remains a painful memory,” she said.
Her sister, Teni, also a popular musician, had in 2023 recounted how witnessing their father’s killing at just two years old left her traumatized.
